Band Connect
Introducing Band Connect, an after-school provision for children & young people who want to learn the basics on keyboard, drums, guitar, and bass. If your child loves music and has always wanted to learn to play a band instrument, this is the perfect opportunity for them!
We offer a FREE trial session for all ensembles, so if you're interested in just getting an idea of what rehearsals are like, email rebecca.hart@nottinghammusichub.org.uk to set a trial up.
Who It's For:
Secondary Group (Monday Sessions):
Tailored for Year Groups 7 and above (ages 11-15). All abilities are welcome. Participants do not need to have any prior experience or learning on these instruments, however experienced musicians are very welcome! We are currently at full capacity for Secondary Band Connect but if you are interested, please email rebecca.hart@nottinghammusichub.org.uk to put your name on a waiting list.
Primary Group (Friday Sessions):
Tailored for Year Groups 4-7 (ages 8-11). All abilities welcome. Participants do not need to have any prior experience or learning on these instruments, however, experienced musicians are very welcome.
Please note that for both groups, you do not need to bring an instrument, but may like to if it is easily portable. Please note that we do not accept responsibility for any damage to personal instruments.
Where & When:
Secondary Group:
Every Monday (term-time) from 4:30PM to 5:30PM at the Old Bus Depot, Fisher Gate Point, Nottingham (NG1 1GD).
Primary Group:
Every Friday during term-time from 4PM to 4:55PM at the Old Bus Depot, Fisher Gate Point, Nottingham (NG1 1GD)
What Sessions Include:
All participants need is love for music and a willingness to learn. Through dynamic weekly sessions, we aim to:
- Build instrumental skills and technique on keyboard, drums, guitar, bass
- Form an understanding of how these instruments are connected and used in songs from different genres
- Develop an understanding of song writing through whole group work and creative exploration
- Develop singing skills and confidence as a group
- Develop performance skills and confidence

Band Connect Ensemble Fee:
For young people who live in Nottingham City and/or study in a city state school, the annual ensemble fee for 2024-2025 is £56 (£17 concessions). Please note that you only have to pay one annual fee but can be part of more than one Music Hub ensemble (for example, your child may play in RHYO as well as Guitar Connect but just pay the ensemble fee once).
How to make the ensemble fee payment:
Log into Speed Admin to view your charge state. You will need to select ‘pay with card’ where you can then choose the invoice/s you would like to pay. Click ‘go to payment’ and make the payment in Stripe. For any questions, please email info@nottinghammusichub.org.uk
Discount/Financial assistance
Nottingham Music Service is committed to making its activities as inclusive and accessible as possible. We are able to offer discounted rates and support for pupils/families who wish to access our ensembles. For students to be eligible to receive a discounted rate for joining an ensemble they need to have an entitlement of free school meals, not including the universal provision for KS1 students.
For those who don’t meet the criteria above but are experiencing financial difficulty, a reduced ensemble subscription may be applicable. Please see the Subsidy Application document below for more information.
