Weekly Lessons
Welcome Bloco member to your online resource to keep you drumming throughout the time that we are unable to get together for our Thursday rehearsals. Feel free to print out the worksheets and add them to your Music files. Please check in with the videos regularly and play along to them at a range of tempos. Always start slow and gradually increase the Tempo until you have all the grooves sounding smooth at 120bpm.I'll be adding lots more rhythms and breaks for you to dive into as the weeks go by, so please watch out for the notifications about new tasks and challenges that might await you on the Music hub site.
If you have requests for particular parts, Repinique calls, or grooves please do ask and I'll be here to help in any way I can.
Enjoy!
Ceri.
Hello Bloco Notto!
Here are some video uploads of the break we were working on recently. It's currently our most complicated piece of percussion arrangement so I've demonstrated parts
for Repinique, Caixa, Tambourim and Agogo. If you familiarise yourself with each part you'll fully understand the way the whole break works. Once you have all the separate parts roughly down, then put a bit of effort into your favoured instrument and push
your tempo up to around 120bpm if possible.
This break or Bossa is a piece of music used in the 2019 Carnival in Rio De Janeiro by a hugely famous Samba school called Beija Flor. The literal translation for Beija flor is 'flower kiss', and they are the words for 'Hummingbird' in Portuguese.
